Note it, learn by playing

Note one word. Plumi takes care of the rest.

Any word or expression, in any language, saved and always easy to find.

Not on the App Store or Google Play yet.

Plumi, a cobalt-blue feather with a smiling face, the HeyPlumi mascot

What it does

You type a word. That is the whole step.

I detect the language and file it in its dictionary. No language pair to pick, no pasting the word into two places, no deciding before you type.

your language

If it is your language

You get a definition, word type and synonyms. No translation.

  • A definition, with its senses kept apart
  • Word type
  • Synonyms
another language

If it is another language

Translation, type, phonetics, and example.

  • The core translation, and the senses that change with context
  • Compound forms and expressions, where the expression is the unit
  • An example from wherever you heard it

Three things

What makes it different

Not a feature list: these are the three decisions the rest of the app hangs off.

It works out the language itself

You type, and that is it. If the word looks like it belongs to another language, I say so before saving: "This looks like German. Shall I file it there?". You decide; I will not put it where it does not belong.

It works offline

Saving a word writes it to the device and the screen answers in the same instant — it never waits on disk or on the network. The whole notebook, the search and the games work on a plane.

One dictionary and one set of games per language

Every language has its own dictionary and its own games section. Each with its own words, path and stars. Your English never leaks into your German.

Plumi facing forward, smiling

The character

Plumi

Plumi is a cobalt-blue feather with a face. Plumi is who explains things inside the app, and talks the way this page is written: short, plain, and never selling you anything. When Plumi cannot do something, Plumi says so.

Things Plumi says inside the app

You can note phrasal verbs and expressions too! I give you the translation and keep them for you.

I need at least 8 words in English to build a round worth playing. I am not going to make them up.

One word a day and in a month you have thirty. Start with one.

The screens

What it looks like

Noting, finding, and seeing how you are doing. Three of the app’s twenty screens.

Mock-ups drawn with the same colours and typefaces as the app. They are not screenshots: the app is not published, and a screenshot would be of a build nobody can install.

Note it You write the word in the notebook. While you type, Plumi looks it up; by the time you stop, the card is ready to save.
My dictionary Everything you have noted, searchable and filtered by word type. Sorted however you like: by date, A-Z or category.
Progress Streak, words and accuracy. Plus the ones that keep escaping you, which come back in games until they stick.

We would rather say that here at the top than hide it under a button that goes nowhere.

Where it is now

The app works on the device: noting words, the dictionary, the games and progress. What is left before publishing is the server side — account, backup and sync across devices — and then App Store and Google Play review. When there is a date, it will be written on this page.
